Braylen Howell was recently recognized as a 2023 Horatio Alger Georgia State Scholar, which includes a $10,000 scholarship award.Â
The Horatio Alger Association is pleased to award Howell with the 2023 Horatio Alger Georgia State Scholarship, which recognizes “students who are persevering and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to pursue higher education.”
In addition to financial support, Horatio Alger Scholars have access to personal/wellness, academic, and professional support and services, including college preparedness programming, counseling, referral services, career exploration and more.Â
The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans Inc. is a nonprofit educational organization that honors the achievements of outstanding leaders who achieved great success despite humble beginnings and inducts them as lifetime members. Thanks to their generosity, the association also enables promising youth to pursue their dreams through higher education.Â

Every year the association awards $18 million in scholarships to approximately 1,900 students and has awarded $245 million in scholarships since 1984.
Howell is a finance and management information systems major at the University of Georgia.Â
