Five Extraordinary Students Awarded 2019 Horatio Alger Boise State Scholarships

Horatio Alger Association provides $10,000 scholarships to promising Boise State University students  through the generosity of Horatio Alger Member Robert G. Miller

WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 17, 2019)Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc., a nonprofit educational organization honoring the achievements of outstanding individuals and encouraging youth to pursue their dreams through higher education, announced that five students from Boise State University have been awarded 2019 Horatio Alger Boise State Scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each. Funded through the generosity of Association Board Member and 2012 Horatio Alger Award recipient Robert G. Miller, Chairman Board member of Albertsons Companies, Inc., these scholarships are presented to young men and women in recognition of their commitment to continuing their education and serving their communities, despite facing significant personal adversity.

“I’m honored to provide scholarship opportunities for these incredibly motivated young men and women who have not let their personal struggles hinder their journey to success,” said Mr. Miller. “I am proud of this year’s scholarship recipients and am confident that each student will achieve great things in their college years and beyond.”

This specialized scholarship program was established by Mr. Miller in 2012, the same year he was inducted into the Association as a Lifetime Member. The scholarship provides financial assistance to students entering their final three years of study at Boise State University. To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be Idaho residents who are current freshmen at Boise State University and must have at least a 2.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). They should prove critical financial need and must also demonstrate integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity.

“It is through the unmatched generosity of Horatio Alger Members like Robert Miller that we are able to provide financial assistance to deserving high school seniors each year,” said Terrence J. Giroux, executive director, Horatio Alger Association. “Our Scholars – like our Members – demonstrate perseverance and courage in everything they do, and with the help of this scholarship they will be able to pursue their own version of the American Dream.”
